Gallery Exhibit: Artwork by Lynne Averill

Art and design run in Lynne Averill’s family! Her maternal grandmother, Edith Dulles Snare, was one of the founders and friends of the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, VT in 1950. Her mother was an award-winning flower arranger; her father a corporate executive, with a woodworking studio off the garage; her sister was a painter with a needlepoint design business; her son, Barrack Evans, is a photographer and owner of Battenkill Bicycles in Manchester; and many artistically talented and successful cousins.
South America, where Lynne lived from 1952-1958, influenced her attraction to lively, vivid, saturated colors. Vermont has a whole different palette and feel. Both environments, as well as extensive travel, have influenced her work.
It was in Lynne’s thirties, with two children off to college, that she became seriously interested in art. Taking a two-dimensional design course in the Portland School of Art’s (PSA) Continuing Studies changed her life forever. Within three weeks she knew she wanted to enroll in art school full time. She applied and became a PSA degree student. She graduated in 1981 with a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Painting.
Lynne has since created abstract works, landscape paintings in acrylic, pen & ink and pencil drawings, mixed media pieces, photography, photo montages, collages, calendars and assemblage. Her artwork, through exhibitions, has taken her to many locations in San Francisco, CA and most of the New England states.
