Gallery Exhibit Featuring Liz Saplin Photography

Liz Saplin’s interest in photography dates to the 1970’s when her college chum introduced her to photography and to the remarkable work of Henri Carter-Bresson. While in Paris for New York University’s year abroad program, she studied language, linguistics, and art (at L’École du Louvre). Liz tried to emulate scenes from Carter-Bresson’s photography. To a tiny degree, that was achieved perhaps once, in a photo which to this day remains her favorite image. It is included in the exhibition at Equinox Village.

After three different careers spanning a few decades, Liz found that her love of art and interior design re-emerged. Liz began shooting again and used her photographs in artisanal stationery, under the name studiozazu. From there, she moved into square format images. These images light up the imagination as there are few extraneous elements to distract. Recently, she began exploring larger, rectangular images which lend themselves well to landscapes, architecture, and still-life.

Liz discovered a way to marry her love of all things French with her passion for photography. While regularly posting her photography on Instagram, she began following French Instagram photographers, [easy to spot by their names]! In 2017, she created a Photo Challenge with a French partner and has more than 1,000 French followers (never posting all at once!) The Photo Challenge remains vital 7 years later. With her Lilloise partner Babeth, they curate submissions from participants and once weekly, they select their Coups de coeur and repost them for the community to see. These are generous and vital people, thus the Coup de coeur recipients receive lots of congratulatory comments within minutes of the reposts. Hundreds and hundreds of French Instagram photographs have certainly inspired Liz, as their unique style leaves an indelible mark.

Liz Saplin’s oeuvre /work features Vermont, Paris, and Brooklyn, NY, the seasons, still-lifes, as well as a wealth of superb flowers.

This 2023-2024 year, Liz exhibited at the Weston Rod and Gun Club, and for a second time at both the Weston Playhouse Winter Bazaar and the Peru Fair.
